Definitions
Terms used in connection with metaphysical subjects can be confusing or misleading because they often have different meanings for different people. This list defines terms as used on this site.
ASTRAL PROJECTION---an out-of-body experience---seeming to be separate from your physical body while conscious or asleep.
AURA---the field of energy around people and objects, usually in colors which change with changing health or emotions.
CLAIRAUDIENCE---’clear hearing’. The extended sensory perception which involves hearing rather than seeing.
CLAIRSENTIENCE---’clear knowing’. In this instance the psychic neither ‘hears’ nor ‘sees’ specifically but just ‘knows’.
CLAIRVOYANCE---is defined as ‘clear seeking’. Edgar Cayce material defines it as ‘conscious awareness of events or conditions that are (1) unknown at that moment to all other minds and (2) removed from the individual to such an extent that no information can be received about them through the environment using the five senses’. This is often used as a general term to include clairaudience and clairsentience.
ESP---extra sensory perception or extended sense perception---that ability to secure knowledge not readily available through the normal use of the five senses.
EXCARNATES or discarnates---persons who no longer have physical bodies. Having ‘died’, they have left the physical body on earth and now have only other, less visible bodies.
INCARNATES---you and me. Persons with physical bodies.
POLTERGEIST---German for ‘noisy spirit’. It involves psychokinesis usually and often seems to center around an adolescent who may or may not be aware of his (her) personal part in the mysterious movements of objects in the house.
PRECOGNITION---conscious awareness of an event or condition before it happens.
PSI---a shortened form of psychic ability but sometimes used to mean the events themselves.
PSYCHOKINESIS (PK)---making physical objects move simply by the power of the mind. It is also called telekinesis.
PSYCHOMETRY---use of an object to get information about the object or its owner. Often used to locate lost persons, etc.
TELEPATHY---mind reading which may be conscious or subconscious.
TRANCE---an altered state of consciousness. A trance may be light with little noticeable effect on the psychic. It may be deep with total loss of conscious memory for the psychic and even physical changes. Or it may be at any level between these.
