Astrology

DEAR JEANETTE: After getting an astrological chart and reading and studying the subject a little, I have decided that there is really something to it. But I am confused. My chart and some others that I know about fit so very well. Yet some others, a friend in particular, do not really seem to be described by their charts. Can you explain this? F.T., Miami, Fl.

DEAR F.T.: One of the first things that comes to mind in this regard is the quotation used by so many astrologers. “The stars impel. They do not compel.”

By this they mean that the forces from the stars are only influences. They are not commands or orders which must be obeyed. Some people then use their free will to move away from or even directly against the influences of the astrological chart.

Such people would possibly then not seem to fit the description given in the standard astrological textbook. They have shown that nothing is stronger than the free will of the person.

Well, perhaps we can not justifiably draw this broad conclusion from such a small example, so let us say that they have shown that the stars are not more powerful than the free will in these cases.

In some other instances the influences are being utilized on a different plane or in a different way. Taurus, for instance, is usually considered to be quite involved with money and possessions. Many who have the Bull as their Sun Sign or their Rising Sign find it very difficult to let go of material possessions.

A two word description of one with Taurus as the Sun Sign is “I Have!” The things that they possess, especially their money, are quite important to them.

Sometimes, however, you will find a Taurean who does not seem to have that great concern for wealth and the acquisition of material things.

Usually if you get to know those people well enough, you will find that there is something else which has taken the place of money for them and about which they are equally possessive.

It may be a creative talent, knowledge, or a similar non-tangible factor. They, in effect, say, “I Have!” this talent and you had better not try to keep me from using it. Just as another would say, “I Have” this money and you had better not try to get it away from me.

Usually it is an older soul who can make the influences of the stars work in such a way so that they move even more rapidly toward their chosen goals.

But that is not all that will make a difference in how a person relates to his/her chart. So far we have talked about the Sun Sign and the Rising Sign which, of course, are the two most influential. But EVERY sign and its position in your chart is important to you.

We will make no attempt to go into detail here, but as you look at books and study your chart, do not neglect the positions of the other planets and their relationship to you!
