The Human Aura

DEAR JEANETTE: When I look at a person I seem to see colored lights. Can you explain this? G.F., Memphis, TN.

DEAR G.F.:If you have mentioned this to very many people one or more of them has undoubtedly told you that you need to have your eyes examined. (Or your head!) A visual problem is one reason for seeing such lights but another very real possibility is that you are seeing auras (pronounced or-ras).

An aura is usually described as an energy field surrounding an object, especially a person. According to John C. Pierrakes as quoted in THE HUMAN AURA by Nicholas Regush (c 1974, Berkley Publishing Co.): “From the periphery of the body arises a cloud-like, blue-gray envelope which extends for 2 to 4 feet where it loses its distinctness and merges with the atmosphere.”

Edgar Cayce, one of the country’s best known psychics, saw colored lights around people even as a small boy. Like most people who have the ability in childhood, he didn’t realize it was anything special. When he learned that others did not see auras, he began to study what he saw. He found that he could tell much about a person’s health and emotions by the changing colors.

Some psychics, including Cayce, believe that the seeing of auras will some day be almost a universal ability. There is evidence that the ability of the eye to see, especially in distinguishing colors, has developed and expanded greatly during the time man has been keeping written records. So it is expected that this development will continue. If this does happen, eventually most, or perhaps all, people will see auras.

This could lead to some interesting changes in our behavior. If you can see the color in auras (some people see just a field of light), then you will be able to learn when people are lying or cheating. This may develop some fast thinkers as they try to stay out of trouble without lying!

On the more serious level, it is obvious that the aura could be a very useful diagnostic tool for doctors. It is thought that some doctors who have unusually high diagnostic success may be reading auras consciously or subconsciously or getting their ‘hunches’ through other psychic talents.

Kirlian photography is assumed to be taking pictures of the energy field or aura emanating from the person or object. Yes, objects have auras too. In fact I have an acquaintance who called the elevator to her floor in a hotel then refused to get in it because she saw no aura. The elevator got stuck between floors. No one was injured but she got to her meeting on time because she took the stairs.
