Automatic Writing
DEAR JEANETTE: Having read a number of books on psychic phenomena I decided to try automatic writing. Messages definitely came through. Do you believe they came from another person or spirit or did they come from my own psyche? J.A. Key West, FL.
DEAR J.A.: Actually the messages could have come from either source. Occasionally our subconscious (or superconscious) will use such opportunities to get messages to he conscious level. However, our own levels of consciousness have more effective means of communication particularly in a person who is open-minded enough to try automatic writing.
If you could always be sure that it was parts of your own beingness with which you were communicating, there would be very little need for caution in practicing automatic writing. However it is much more likely that you will actually be in touch with someone on the astral or spirit level. SUCH CONTACTS SHOULD BE MADE WITH CAUTION!
Those beings on the astral level range from the most saintly to the most evil just as personalities incarnate on the earth plane do. There are many people (incarnates, in the body) with whom you do not care to associate or whom you do not trust. There are spirits who are just like those people. So don’t trust them just because they have taken off the body as they would a worn out suit of clothes.
Human beings do continue to grow after ‘death’ but such growth means that they will progress beyond the astral level and return to it only if there is a special reason for communication with the earth.
Those who are basically evil or too lazy to try for further growth may be ‘stuck’ on the astral level. They are often the ones who respond when we open the ‘door’ of our consciousness to the spirit level without protection, Sometimes they are just mischievous, sometimes just ignorant, sometimes actually evil. But it becomes plain that we cannot necessarily trust all information received through such communication.
I would therefore strongly recommend that you provide yourself with adequate protection before initiating such ‘conversations’. Use a simple prayer to the Highest Being in whom you trust. Just ask for protection from all that is evil and request that whatever is right and good for you to know at this time may be brought through to you.
Remember too that your motives for making the contact can be important in determining what you will get. Curiosity is a legitimate motive since this is what spurs us on in learning. Properly used, you can have a good time and learn too through such means as automatic writing.
