Can You be a Psychic and a Christian?

DEAR JEANETTE: Various members of my family and I have experienced many different things such as you describe in your column. This makes me believe that there is something in our lives that they don’t teach us about in school or even in church. But I try to be a good Christian and don’t want to get mixed up in the wrong kind of thing. Are you a Christian? If so, how do you feel about this? S.D.,L.A., CA.

DEAR S.D.: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to answer a very important question. Yes, I am a Christian. I was reared in a Christian family and attended church regularly from the time I was an infant.

I have been a member of several different denominations as I have moved about the country. Which ones are not important as each seems to have had some of God’s truth to teach but none is perfect (for me) in it’s teachings.

The level of my dedication to and understanding of the teachings of Jesus, the Christ, has deepened steadily as I have learned more and more about the psychic world which is a very real part of our world of reality today.

If you will read the Bible, particularly the New Testament, with this in mind, you will discover that many of the miracles are what we today would call psychic phenomena---telepathy, clairvoyance, levitation, faith/psychic healing, psychokinesis, etc.

This is not to discount these events as ‘miracles’. It makes them all the more amazing when we realize that Jesus and the disciples were using powers that are available to all of us if we properly learn the Laws that govern this world in which we live.

John 14:12 says: Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works which I do he shall do also; even greater than these things he shall do, because I am going to my Father.

This, it seems to me, not only allows us, but almost commands us to look into the God-given laws which he knew and was following to accomplish these things that we today know as His miracles.

Let me emphasize that it is important for you to continue to exercise caution because most powers in this world can be misused and abused. And so it is with the psychic powers. But it is our misuse of them and not the powers as they come from God which should be avoided. (1982)
