Inner Peace

DEAR JEANETTE: What do you mean by ‘Inner Peace’? T.W., Carthage, MO.

DEAR T.W.: It is important to say first that by ‘inner peace’ I do NOT mean an absence of problems. Neither do I mean that you will find easy, immediate solutions to the problems. But you will know that you are on the right path in spite of the problems.

Even hardship and suffering may come your way as your soul seems to be quoting to you from the song: “I didn’t promise you a rose garden”. Yet through it all you can feel calm and peaceful inside if you have established communication with your soul and/or God.

As I write this, I keep thinking of the sign you may have seen on someone’s desk or office wall: “If you can remain calm in the midst of all this confusion, you just don’t understand the situation.” That is the way that most of us have lived at least a part of our lives---feeling that we should absorb the ‘vibrations’ from the situation in which we find ourselves. Thus being confused, happy, excited, etc. depending upon the circumstances or the mood of the people around us.

How much simpler life becomes when we learn to maintain our own inner calm from which to enjoy the good, happy moments and from which we will also find a firm base for dealing with those less-than-happy moments.

When we have established this firm base and begin to control our reactions to the things that happen to us, we also begin to find that we are, indeed, responsible for that which happens to us. We can then begin to take firm control of our lives and move much more rapidly toward our goal.

The turmoil that is sometimes within us seems to come from conflicting directions which are being given to us. They may be coming from the Higher Powers (by whatever name you feel comfortable using), your own soul, lower astral level entities, or your own subconscious, as well as the suggestions made by friends and others to your conscious mind.

If you will (through prayer, listening, meditation or similar methods) make contact with your own soul you will begin to find your soul’s purpose for you in this lifetime. Long before you have found the entire purpose or before it has become clear to your conscious mind, you will be able to tell, one step at a time, what is the right thing for you to do. Following these directions will lead to that peacefulness within, from which it becomes possible to face the future unafraid, even though you cannot see clearly just exactly what it is you are to do very far ahead.

This sureness or inner awareness is given different names by different religions but it is much sought after and when achieved enables its possessor to face without fear anything that life may bring.
