Recalls or Regressions

DEAR JEANETTE: I know where I can get a life reading and have someone else tell me about my past lives, but I am more interested in finding this out for myself. Can you give me some help? R.S., K.C., MO.

DEAR R.S.: One of the most accurate ways of finding out about your own past lives is through recall sessions, sometimes called reverie or regression. But for most people, this requires the assistance of another person who should have considerable experience and knowledge, preferably with rather extensive knowledge of psychology.

It is possible to get into past life situations which could be very disturbing to the participant. Without understanding on the part of the leader of how to handle the client, all ‘fun’ would rapidly disappear and be replaced by panic.

Having supervised many such sessions, I have seen panic occur for even ‘seasoned’ leaders under certain circumstances and it was for this reason that we always had a supervisor with psychology background available to help out if needed. This is why we do not recommend recall sessions as a “parlor game”.

Recall can also be done under hypnosis as was done in the celebrated Bridey Murphy case. But hypnosis is not necessary for recall and I would caution you to allow hypnosis to be done for any reason only by a very capable, well-trained hypnotist as it can be dangerous in the hands of a person with insufficient knowledge.

If you have learned to meditate (a practice which I highly recommend) you will find it helpful in connection with your desire to learn of past lives. Sometimes, after studying about a country or historical period in which you are interested, your meditation period will give you specific information about your part in that country or period.

Also your indicated desire to learn of past lives will assist your guides and teachers in bringing such material to your attention. This then is a perfectly safe way for you to find out about these influences from the past that are affecting your present lifetime. That which it will be helpful for you to know, will be brought to your conscious mind for integration and use in your daily life.

You as an individual have many likes and dislikes. Some of them may be influences from past lives in other countries, cultures, or times. A thoughtful look at yourself may lead to some interesting speculation and possibly personal conclusions. Some answers will come to mind quickly but I suggest that you give prayerful thought (meditation) to the subject, especially for interpretation and analysis. In answering, use categories and/or titles or names, but be as specific as possible in regard to countries, historical periods, moods, etc.

What countries interest you the most? What types of food do you prefer? What architectural styles please you the most? Furniture? Clothing? Hair and cosmetics?

What things seem to come especially easily to you? Music, a language, manual dexterity, artistic skills, athletic ability, business acumen, writing (prose or poetry), etc. Have there been particular movies of which you seemed to ‘become a part’? Novels?

What types of music ‘turn you on’? Think of the type of pictures (on the wall, not movies) that you like best. Jewelry? Bric-a-brac? What hobbies do you most enjoy? What kinds of dogs or other pets?

If you could be or do ANYTHING, what would you choose as a lifestyle? Vocation? Vacation? Costume for Carnival?

What fears do you have? Major ones? Minor ones?

Answer the above questions again from the standpoint of dislikes. Now look at your answers for patterns and for clues to periods, places, or professions that you want to investigate more thoroughly.

Also realize that your dislikes can tell a great deal about you too. For instance, a psychic told a woman of a past life as a French girl in a fishing village. Everything seemed to fit her except for her dislike of almost everything French---cuisine, furniture, etc. When she realized that the things that she disliked represented the elite or wealthy class and she had been a relatively poor person in that lifetime, even her dislikes confirmed the accuracy of the reading.
