Developing Psychic Abilities
DEAR JEANETTE: How can I develop my psychic abilities? T.P., S.P.,MN,
DEAR T.P.: There are a number of different ways to speed the development of psychic abilities since almost everyone has them, active or latent. Your interest and willingness to try are the two most important factors in your psychic growth.
It is particularly important to listen to that inner voice, those hunches, or however you get your guidance and then follow that advice. Your guides will have opened doors, prepared your subconscious or whatever is necessary for you to accomplish your purpose.
Previous development (in other lifetimes) and current guidance make it possible for many people to become active psychics simply by reading, meditation, and prayer. In addition, prayer is a powerful protection against opening up to the lower levels of the unseen world which can be dangerous and harmful.
“Sitting” with working psychics will be helpful. Especially if they will discuss their own beginning efforts as well as their present methods. Many of them however may not be able to answer your questions because they actually learned to do these things in other lifetimes. Since it has come to them so naturally, they may never have analyzed what was happening. Your observations and questions could still get many answers for you.
Since there are many types of psychic abilities, you may not develop the same one(s) exhibited by the person with whom you are sitting.
If you are familiar with the story of Edgar Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet, and his work, you may already be aware of his answer to your question. He explained that the ‘how’ of these things was not nearly as important as inner development. He therefore started bringing through his trance state a set of instructions which had to do with spiritual ideas, how to treat other people, our relationship to self and to God, etc. Those who follow his instructions develop various talents.

There are also many other local psychic groups. Some will be listed in your telephone directory, others are less formally organized and will have to be hunted for.
National groups, or their local chapters, such as the Rosicrucians, the Arcane School, the Mayans, Astara, etc. are also possible sources of help. (1982)
