God’s Guidance
Recently a friend of mine had an important and difficult test to take in connection with her employment. She studied, prayed, and did everything she could, but was still uncertain that she would be able to pass the test. In thinking of her about the situation, some interesting ideas or comparisons came to mind. I would like to share them with you.
If you did whatever you could, in your particular circumstances, to prepare for what was coming up and placed yourself in God’s hands, for your life in general and/or for this instance, then He has assured you that He will be there for you. So it was suggested that as she entered the test room, she turn to that spirit beside her and express her gratitude for that presence and help.
Now comes the part that may be new for many of us. There is still no guarantee for what we would call success. No guarantee in this case that she would pass the test! Think about it. God’s promise is not that we will get what we want but that we will find our way to the pathway that is best for our soul’s purpose and development. That might mean continuing in the present job rather than getting the advancement, experiencing the disappointment, perhaps even the humiliation, of failure of some sort.
What would seem to us to be all wrong and therefore that God had not helped as we had expected, would actually be God’s “tough love”, to put it into modern terms. Any parent or teacher, reading this, can probably call to mind various times when it was necessary for them to do these “tough” kinds of things to help a child grow into a better, stronger adult.
We are indeed God’s children! So perhaps we just need to learn to take our failures as problems to be solved, lessons to be learned, etc!
Oh, yes. She passed her test with flying colors. And I got a lot to think about in connection with some of my own circumstances.
